Shame on you, Arnhim Eustace!

06.JUL.07

Editor: Over the last two weeks the leader of the NDP, Arnhim Eustace continues to demonstrate why he and his party are totally unfit to run the affairs of the ship of state called St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The first incident that shows this relates to the unwise statement by St. Clair Leacock, that the ULP will use Cuban workers to influence the outcome of the next general elections. That statement by Senator Leacock is dotish enough to say the least, but to have the leader of the opposition giving it some support by saying that Leacock said nothing wrong, is ludicrous.{{more}}

It would have been better if he had said nothing. By doing so we could have hazard a guess that Leacock would be reprimanded by the NDP, behind closed doors. Now the leader of the NDP leaves us in doubt about the character of the people who want to replace the ULP and lead this country. Clearly it’s a sad reflection of the NDP, and it shows the backwardness of their thinking.

The next issue is the 2007 Common Entrance Results. There can be no doubt in the minds of all Vincentians that the results indicate a marked improvement over the years, and is a testimony to the hard work of the teachers, the parents and guardians, the Ministry of Education and the Government as a whole.

In the House of Assembly on June 28th, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves gave the Opposition a second chance to join in the congratulatory remarks, to all the successful students. Shockingly, shamefully, Arnhim Eustace and his opposition remained silent, not a word, not a sound. To be sure, the successful students are children of ULP and NDP supporters, so why not be united in the House, and join in congratulating all the children.

The problem is that by doing so, the NDP and Arnhim Eustace are afraid that they will be sending a message of support for the Education Revolution. Unfortunately they are also reminding us, that for 17 years, the NDP disenfranchised close to 60 percent of our young 11 and 12-year-old children, and condemned them to a life without a secondary education, a whole generation lost to our country. Thank God, that will never happen again.
