Is SVG truly a Christian nation?

22.JUN.07

Editor: The Bible says in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Can it be said of this country of ours that our God is the Lord?

Ladies and gentlemen, we as a nation have turned to other things rather than the Living God. We are in the heart of the carnival season.{{more}} It is sad that many young people who claimed to be members of religious bodies are deeply involved in carnival. Yet we claimed that God is the Lord. We have turned Sundays into a time of partying and dancing.

We hold God with one hand and the world with the other, yet we say we are Christians. We are more involved in political bashing than giving thanks and praise to the Lord God Almighty. We made enemies because of politics and fail to love each other, despite our differences.

We blame the government for all the crimes, but we have turned away from God and promote violence by our words and the songs that are played in our homes. So tell me, “is God our Lord?”

Material things have replaced the love in the homes. Honesty and love are things of the past. Instead we live by “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”.

Ladies and gentlemen, if this nation has turned away from God, then why do we blame politicians? We are getting what we deserve. If as a nation we serve the Living God from our hearts and we make Him our Lord and master, then the Lord will bless this nation.

If we make God our Lord, then there would be a decrease in crime, there would be peace in our land and things would improve in many areas. But when we put other things in our lives and cherish them more than the Lord, then we can never truly be called, “HAIROUNA” the home of the blessed.

We must realize that the prosperity of this nation and the social peace lies in our hands and not in the hands of the politician. May we return to God, and be call a true Christian nation. Then peace and safety, along with prosperity and success will be returned.
