Rephrase that ugly Miss SVG ad

Editor: Kindly grant me the space in your newspaper to express my opinion on an advertisement I came across in your paper dated November 18, 2005. {{more}}

The ad was calling for contestants for Miss SVG 2006. What I found to be disconcerting was the line that states that the candidates have to be ‘good looking’ with ‘superb bodies’.

In this day and age, we are busy teaching our kids that beauty is only skin deep and the real beauty lies deep within. Our kids are already taken up with trying to be like the models they see on tv, creating health problems like anorexia and bulimia. Ads such as this only add fuel to the flames.

Should anyone not making the grade be considered ugly and fat then? I would like to see that advertisement rephrased and an apology made to the many beautiful women of St. Vincent.

Thank you,
