North Leeward Secondary schools receive Agricultural support
An undertaking by the Sustainable Commission of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee has seen the Agriculture Science programmes of the Petit Bordel and Troumaca Ontario Secondary schools, being the beneficiaries of a quantity of saplings and mulches.
The two North Leeward educational institutions last Monday, March 9, 2026, were the recipients of soursop, mango, cherry, cinnamon, plumrose, nutmeg, breadfruit, and papaya saplings.
Making the saplings available was Managing Director of Garden Care Plus Inc., Earl Tash, who was in person to be part of the handing over ceremonies.
Tash, in a spirit of benevolence, pledged to further lend his expertise in assisting the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School with the irrigation of its plots.
The Agriculture Science teachers assigned to the two schools, as well as the principals welcomed the partnership between the SVGOC and Garden Care Plus Inc.
Amber Glasgow, who chairs the Sustainable Commission, expresses satisfaction that they pursued the donation of the trees bolstering their responsibility towards sustainability.
“We wanted to do something impactful. We wanted to do something that has practical relevance and this is why we chose to support the schools’ Agriculture Science programmes”, Glasgow stated.
Also present was Parliamentary Representative for North Leeward, and Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development, Dr.Kishore Shallow.
Pledging the government’s commitment to Agriculture, Shallow implored students to do the
best at what they love, as they combine skills with their academics.
“What we are hoping for is to really produce well- rounded individuals in our society. Gone are the days when we strictly focus on academics,” the tourism minister said.
“ We have to ensure that people
who want to explore -whether it is agriculture, sports- anything you want to do, we have to provide the platform for you to excel.”
The respective handing over ceremonies were in sync with the commemoration of Commonwealth Day, 2026.
