New appliances ease pressure on staff at Questelles Government School
On December 29, 2026, a fire destroyed a section of the Questelles Government School which forced the authorities to relocate Grades 5 and 6 to the Campden Park Community Centre. However, staff at the main location were facing an uphill battle in providing meals for the students there.
The kitchen at the Questelles plant did not have a refrigerator nor a stove, and the principal and staff were wondering how long it would take before these much needed appliances were provided to the school.
A few weeks ago, someone with knowledge of the situation spoke with Ricardo Latham of the A&A Wholesale and Retail Company, which is located at New Grounds. As a result a decision was taken to assist, and on Monday, March 9, 2026, Latham accompanied by former Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar, presented a new refrigerator and stove to the principal, staff, and students of the Questelles Government School.
“We will continue to do what we have to do to keep the kids them going. It’s been a great thing to do for these children,” Latham told SEARCHLIGHT.
Principal, Dornnette Ferdinand was quite pleased with the donation, pointing out that it is a huge relief to be finally able to cook meals for the students.
