Opposition Leader tells PM Friday don’t develop ‘amnesia’
Opposition Leader, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is cautioning Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday not to get amnesia regarding past conduct instigated or supported by him and his New Democratic Party in the past years.
His comment was triggered by a video clip of the prime minister calling a legal matter that is being brought against him and member of parliament Fitzgerald Bramble, frivolous.
Dr. Gonsalves, who said Dr. Friday looked “deeply worried” in the clip, and recalled when the NDP led protests against the ULP, and “harassed” an election supervisor; challenged the ULP in court and “dragged” the matter without any intention of pursuing it.
He said that Carlos Williams and Luke Browne respectively are challenging that Prime Minister Friday (Northern Grenadines), and Fitzgerald Bramble (East Kingstown), are not qualified to sit in parliament due to their own voluntary act of acquiring Canadian citizenship and subjecting themselves to the authority of Canada.
He said he has seen the reports that both Bramble and Dr. Friday, acknowledged to the court that they’re Canadian citizens and they have Canadian passports, and added that if they are disqualified, the candidates on the ballot who are not elected would become the representatives.
“…and what is amazing, after the 2010, 2015, general elections, for five years, the NDP led protests against what they considered to have been stolen elections.”
Dr. Gonsalves said that the New Democratic Party (NDP), had no case and their case crumbled, but they dragged it on because they were the petitioners.
“They dragged it on, on and on. They had…a group called the front line, associated with the NDP, and the leadership of the NDP would visit them on different days.”
He pointed out that for five years, the NDP harassed a “wonderful” woman, who served as supervisor of elections at the time.
“A pillar of the Anglican community, former teacher, former head teacher, a primary school former Principal. This woman was verbally abused.”
He said words were ‘thrown’ at her on a daily basis.
“[She was advised to not] worry with what these people are getting on with…and I showed her that she’d be vindicated, and she was vindicated.”
He also recalled the time when Ben Exeter, and the late Elvis Daniel challenged Sir Louis Straker and Montgomery Daniel in court and put them through expenses.
