Minister of Tourism buoyant over plans for North Leeward
Minister of Civil Aviation, and Sustainable Development Dr. Kishore Shallow, has spoken about a series of development initiatives aimed at addressing unemployment and stimulating economic growth in North Leeward and across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Speaking on day two of the 2026 Budget debate in the House of Parliament on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, he outlined the government’s plans to invest in tourism infrastructure, improve roads, and expand tourism opportunities.
Among the major initiatives he highlighted were the long-anticipated Troumaca Bottom Bay Project, a modern recreational site estimated to cost over $6 million which is expected to commence by mid-year 2026. This is projected to create employment opportunities for residents of North Leeward, an area where lack of employment has been a concern.
He said the development of the recreational facility is expected to not only generate construction related jobs during the initial phase, but also will provide long term employment once operational.
The project forms part of a broader strategy to enhance community based tourism and increase visitor experiences on the mainland, Dr. Shallow stated.
