EC$81 million dollars in Budget for Vinlec Upgrade
The sum of EC$81 million dollars has been allocated in the 2026 Budget for the establishment of a National Risk Mitigation Mechanism and also to modernise the electricity infrastructure in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
This was announced by Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, during his Budget address on Monday, February 9, 2026.
The prime minister said the money is allocated through a World Bank programme.
It will help fund upgrades to VINLEC’s Lowmans Bay power plant, in terms of its phase three engine haul; provide storage systems at Cane Hall and Myreau; and provide for a new power station in Bequia.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Friday said, “ These investments strengthen reliability today, while preparing the ground for tomorrow”.
