Carr hailed for pioneering Georgetown Special Needs School
THE CONTRIBUTION and impact of Candice Carr, a pioneer teacher at the School for Children with Special Needs in Georgetown, was highlighted with much appreciation when the school held its 40th anniversary thanksgiving service on Wednesday, January 28,2026.
Speaking at the anniversary service, the current Principal Kathleen Butler, said the school opened its doors to students on January 13, 1986 from the location of the old Hospital in Georgetown, and the official opening took place on January 28, 1986, at the same location.
The principal hailed Candice Carr as the “pioneer of the school” which started with three students.
She recalled that around that time, Carr had returned home after studies in Jamaica and was assigned to the School for Special Needs in Kingstown.
