SVG Cadet Force launches 90th anniversary celebrations
THE STVINCENT and the Grenadines (SVG) Cadet Force revealed plans for their 90th anniversary at a media launch yesterday, January 19, 2026 at the NIS conference room, Kingstown.
The year-long celebrations will be held under the theme “90Years of Discipline Patriotism Honour: Celebrating Our Past, Strengthening Our Present and Shaping Our Future.”
At Monday’s launch, Commandant, Major Dr. Idelia Ferdinand, providing some background on the institution explained that “the purpose of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Cadet Force is to train persons over the age of 11 and under the age of 20 in citizenship, combat craft, marine and aeronautical and navigation and skills, and Police duties within a framework of military discipline and organization”. She shared that the Cadet Force in SVG was formed in 1936 with only 14 males enrolled, and after almost 40 years females were allowed to join.
“I am proud to be part of the history as the first female in command though in an acting capacity” she stated.
