Former Assessor says galvanize sheets in Mayreau were not stolen
A video clip which been making the rounds on social media depicting a scene in which the police are seen removing building materials from the yard of a resident on the Grenadine island of Myreau, has generated much chatter. And, Commissioner of Police, Enville Williams said he will look into the matter after it was drawn to his attention.
The video clip which was shot on January, 3 2026, is said to have occurred in the yard of Petal Grant, a resident of Myreau.
Former assessor Desmond Lewis, a Mayreau resident explained the circumstances involved in the matter to SEARCHLIGHT on Thursday morning, January, 8 2026.
He said he was contacted by a friend of Grant who inquired what could be done to assist the woman whose living conditions were terrible.
Lewis said the friend informed him that “she needs help…because she’s basically a mother living with her kids in one small house, and she was trying to put an addition onto the house…to get some more sleeping space”.
Lewis said he paid the woman a visit, and she asked if she could get 10 sacks of cement, and 10 lengths of galvanize sheets for the roof.
“So I said, no problem. I actually gave her the cement.”
He said that due to subsequent transportation issues Grant was unable to collect the galvanise but planned to so as soon as she was able to.
