Lawyers to engage secondary school students as part of Law Week activities
THISYEAR, as part of the local law week, students from six schools will be given the opportunity to engage lawyers on topics of their (students) choosing.
Also, members of the public will have the opportunity to consult with lawyers in a pro-bono (free of cost) setting.
These are just two of the programmes on the books for the upcoming law week which begins this Sunday, October, 5,2025 with a church service at the Kingstown Baptist Church.
Yesterday,Thursday, October, 2, 2025, President of St Vincent and the Grenadines Bar Association, Shirlan Zita Barnwell spoke to SEARCHLIGHT about the upcoming law week initiative, stressing that every year the Bar Association holds law week, which is basically, a week of activities meant to allow the local law fraternity to engage with the public while also improving the standard of the practice through continual legal education for lawyers.
As part of the week of activities, school visits start on Monday, October 6. A team of two lawyers will each visit the North Union Secondary School (NUSS), the Georgetown Secondary School (GSS), the Sandy Bay Secondary School, the Bethel High School, the Petit Bordel Secondary School, and the Central Leeward Secondary School. These visits are aimed at engaging students on topics such as law, civic responsibility, and career opportunities.
