PM chides Friday over Citizenship Bill for Windies Cricket legends

PRIME MINISTER, Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he knows how to play the opposition New Democratic Party.

“Anytime I want, I could play the opposition like a violin, cause as soon as I throw something, I throw a little sprat, and I catch whale.”

The prime minister made the comments while speaking on NBC radio on Wednes- day, August 6, 2025.

He was also very critical of the NDP’s leader, Dr Godwin Friday, who had abstained from voting on a Bill to grant Vincentian citizen- ship to members of the 1975 West Indies Cricket team.

Dr Gonsalves chided Dr Friday for his indecisiveness on the matter.

“He said this is the most difficult decision he has had to make in his political life,” Dr Gonsalves recalled.

“I sit down there, I say but wait, this man just telling everybody in the country that he is disqualified to lead.

“Imagine that is your most difficult decision in your entire political career,” Dr Gonsalves with some sarcasm.

“The thing gave him sleepless nights, turning and tossing.

“Whole week after he got the Bill, he cant sleep,” Dr Gonsalves added.

“I don’t know if he went to doctor for tablets,” he said humorously.

Dr Friday will be leading the opposition party into the upcoming general elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

As far as those elections go, the Prime Minister said “ the trump shall sound just now.”

Dr Gonsalves who has been Prime Minister since 2001, went on to say that he loves going to the people to get his exam papers marked.

He expressed confidence that in the next general elections, “ the ULP will get A plus.”

He said the ruling party is on the right track and “big things a gwarn”.
