New initiative being introduced to ease transportation woes for vulnerable citizens
THE GOVERNMENT IS soon to introduce a transportation initiative to ease the transportation woes of people needing dialysis treatment, as well as the elderly, and those with disabilities.
Minister of Health, Wellness, and the Environment St Clair “Jimmy” Prince, in Parliament on Monday, July 8,2025, said this is being done by his Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of National Mobilisation.
The transport initiative, dubbed MOVE (Mobile Vincentian Empowerment Service) was approved under the 2025 national budget, and aims to provide safe, dignified, and cost-free transportation for persons with disabilities and elderly individuals facing mobility or accessibility barriers. It is scheduled to be launched in August, 2025, pending final Cabinet approval.
Prince noted that this initiative is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to improve access to dialysis treatment and medical services for vulnerable citizens across the state.
He said MOVE is more about health equity than transport, and that the programme will ease the burden on the most vulnerable citizens, while allowing them to receive healthcare in a dignified, manner.
