‘Shooting him? Why would that be an option?’ Gloster’s sister questions
SHERNARD GLOSTER, was shot and killed during an altercation with an on-duty security guard while con- ducting business at a financial institution in Kingstown

‘Shooting him? Why would that be an option?’ Gloster’s sister questions

A man, who was conducting business inside the offices of the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union (KCCU) was shot and killed, allegedly by an on- duty security guard. Reports are that there was a scuffle between the two.

The sister of the deceased, who desires to see the CCTV footage, is now questioning why kill “somebody stupidly….”

Shernard Gloster, 47, of Barrouallie returned to St Vincent from Tortola to celebrate with his son, who graduated from the St Martin’s Secondary School last Thursday, July 3, 2025. Six days later, he was dead.

The police said that on Wednesday, July, 10, 2025 Gloster visited KCCU on Granby Street, Upper Kingstown to conduct some business.

During his visit, an altercation occurred between Gloster and an on-duty security guard, resulting in Gloster being shot at approximately 12:35 p.m, causing him to die on the spot.

Gloster’s sister, Petula Gloster was at home when her best friend called to tell her that her brother had been killed.

“I’m going to be honest with you; I was shocked. I was shocked. It’s like my entire body- I had no feelings because I said, ‘my brother?’

She said she told her friend that Gloster does not trouble people and that her information was incorrect.

“That is what I told them, and they say ‘girl you know I won’t lie to you, is your brother; and I say ‘my brother’?” When Petula heard this, she said she dropped the phone.

“I spoke with a lady. She told me she was there and she told me that my brother was in a line and he came out the line to go in a different line… he said he was going there to ask something.”

Richards told SEARCHLIGHT that her mother and sisters did not take the news easily.

“But what can we do?” she questioned.

Richards said if it was not her brother, it may have been somebody else that would have got killed.

“Shooting him? Why would that be an option?” Richards questioned.

“I could understand that he pulled a weapon at you and you want to defend yourself. I would understand that because that would be all fair,” she continued. The sister said she was told that Gloster was not being worrisome and did not have a weapon.

Richards insists that Gloster is a very quiet person.

“And I’m not telling any lie about it. He is not a person who is worrisome… my only concern is, because I know this is a business place, I know that they have camera and I want to know what my brother did… to this guy that could cause him to be so heartless.”

Richards said that she wants to see if Gloster was wrong in this situation as the story she is hearing does not add up.

Richards told SEARCHLIGHT that she saw Gloster’s body a while before the interview.

“…that was when I broke down again. I did not want to, but I had to go and see him to… make sure that this was my brother. I had to go and see his face.”
