Soca Monarch win for Fireman & Skinny; Road March next
With the Soca Monarch finals out of the way, all eyes and ears are turned towards Kingstown in anticipation for who will capture the 2025 Road March title.
Newly crowned monarchs, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper and Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle left Victoria Park covered in ash with ‘Erupt’ following their electric performance at the July 5 finals.
Defending monarch Hooper, who has thirteen soca monarch crowns, teamed up with Doyle, who has five wins, to capture the soca monarch title.
Patrons at Victoria Park erupted in cheers and applause when the results were announced around 6 am on Sunday. The judges awarded the dynamic duo 396 points.
In a post-win interview with SEARCHLIGHT at Victoria Park, Doyle credited preparation as well as years of experience for the near-seamless performance put on by the two artistes.
“Confidence is important but more than confidence is preparation. I am a professional, Fire [man] is a professional. We have two professional teams, so it was just about executing.”
They both credited mutual “respect” for each other as a necessary component for building a solid performance on the night.
“I know what Fireman’s strengths are; he knows what my strengths are. When I am working, he gives me my space; when he is working, I give him his space,” Doyle told SEARCHLIGHT.
When questioned about predictions for Road March winner, Fireman, who placed second last year to Problem Child’s ‘Carnival Jumbie’, jokingly said,
“The road is ours.”
Problem Child’s ‘Fraid Horn’ has been marked as a stronger contender for this year’s road march winner.
Second place in the power soca segment went to Bongo Prime with ‘Maddest Place on Earth’, while LPlank was awarded third place with ‘Love Yuh Bad’.
