Vincentian UWI Professor gives SVG an “A” for educational advancement
The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines has been given a high grade for the strides made in education during its term in office, but is concerned for more attention to be paid to children at the level of the primary school.
The commendation came from Professor Justin Robinson, head of UWI’s Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Vincentian born university educator was a guest on WE FM’s Issue at Hand programme last Sunday, and was asked by the programme’s co-host, Philbert John, to rate the government’s performance in education over the last 20 years.
Professor Robinson responded by stating that he gives the government an ‘A’, based on their policy of compulsory secondary education; the developments in tertiary education; and provision of opportunities for persons to study at the university level.
He, however, said he hopes to see more attention paid at the primary level.
“Children are leaving the primary schools with basic competencies in reading, writing and comprehension,” the Professor pointed out, but noted that “as a Vincentian, it is really pleasing for me to see the tremendous strides made by the country, in the field of education.”
Professor Robinson was also the featured speaker at the graduation ceremony of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College held on June, 24, 2025.
