McCalmon family sees God’s faithfulness through Blossom’s stellar CPEA results
Blossom Petal McCalmon’s mother, Heather, has always known that she was intelligent and would have probably placed in the top 20 in the CPEA. She was “really blown away” when her daughter was named the country’s ninth best performer in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment(CPEA) which was written in May.
“Not that she was not capable of doing it, but honestly, it took me by surprise that she would do even better than I expected.”
Like Blossom, her father Colis, expected his daughter to rank in the top 10.
“I thought I would’ve done better actually,” Blossom told SEARCHLIGHT, adding that she was still “really happy and excited” with her results.
Heather, who said that she cried upon hearing the good news, added that preparation for Grade 6 began in Kindergarten.
“We have an approach towards school work where it is one of constant revision… especially as parents, we knew… new concepts are usually taught on a Monday.”
Heather added that parents should be integrally involved in their children’s education to know what is going on and how their work is structured.
“So you know how to revise and how to be on top of things. Specifically for Grade 6, we continued that process. We didn’t just jump to past papers because it is important for students to know the material that they are learning…,” she said.
