Magistrate orders young man to enroll in Skills Training Programme

A homeless young man, who aspires to be a makeup artist and nail technician was bonded and sent to Marion House to receive counselling for stealing a pack of Irish Spring soap from Jax Enterprises Ltd.

Noel Harry, 22, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie, on June, 6, 2025, where he pleaded guilty that on June, 5, 2025 he stole one pack of Irish Spring Soap, valued EC$12.70, the property of Jax Enterprises Limited. The facts, presented by PC 196 Constantine, are that Vanda Frederick is employed as a security guard at Jax Enterprises Limited. On the date in question at about 10:11 a.m, Frederick was at the work station between the entrance and exit doors when she heard the alarm go off.

She saw Harry walk past the scanner machine and leave the store. Frederick called to Harry and asked him to walk back through the machine, and when he complied, the scanner machine went off again. Frederick then asked Harry to let her have the one strap bag which he had around his shoulder. Harry did. When she scanned the bag; the alarm went off.

She handed the bag back to Harry, and asked him to remove the items from inside. Harry did so and handed over one pack of Irish Spring soap valued EC$12.70 to her. Frederick passed the soap through the scanner machine and it alarmed again. This aroused Frederick’s suspicion. She therefore informed the head of security of her observation.

Frederick was advised to make a report to the police. PC 493 Burke, who is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID), entertained Frederick’s report. Burke visited the scene and recorded a statement in writing from Frederick, after which, an investigation was carried out. Harry was taken into custody and was later cautioned and interviewed. He volunteered a statement in writing admitting to the allegation.

He was arrested and charged later that day for theft.
