A Cane Garden mother, who found a purse in Kingstown and handed it over to the police was given a suspended sentence for stealing the money inside.

Kelorne George, 29, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Tammika McKenzie on Thursday, June 5, 2025, where she pleaded guilty that on June 2, 2025, at Upper Middle Street, Kingstown she stole one brown leather purse valued EC$40.00; five key chains valued at EC$115.00; one Coreas Points Card valued EC$10.00; one Massy Stores Points Card valued EC$10.00; and EC$20.00 in cash- total value EC$195.00, the property of Danielle Llewellyn of Ottley Hall.

The facts presented in court are that on the date in question, at about 10:00 a.m Llewellyn went to Elegance clothing store, located at Upper Middle Street, Kingstown to make a purchase.

She had the purse and the listed items with her. While at the store, Llewellyn browsed through the aisles, took up a few items then left them in an area in the store.

She left to visit another store nearby. When she returned to Elegance, Llewellyn picked up the items she had already chosen, went to the cashier to pay for them, and in doing so, placed her purse to the left side of the cashier’s desk.

After Llewellyn paid for her items, she left the store, forgetting her purse inside. When she arrived in the vicinity of Singer’s Llewellyn realised that she had forgotten her purse and immediately went back to the store to retrieve it.

Upon arrival, she made checks around the store but she did not find her purse. Llewellyn reported the matter at the Criminal Investigations Department, Kingstown.

PC 534 Adams conducted investigations into the matter and visited the scene. The police officer also recorded a written statement from her.

Later the same day at about 1:00 p.m, George arrived at the department and said that she found a purse in the bathroom at Little Tokyo, Kingstown which she handed over to the police.

PC Adams conducted further investigations into the matter, and retrieved video footage and still images which showed George taking up the purse, placing it in her bag, and leaving the store.
