Police not tolerating obscene lyrics, indecent assault this carnival season

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has issued a stern warning about non-tolerance of certain behaviours usually heightened during the carnival season, particularly the playing of music with obscene lyrics and also acts of indecent assault.

This warning came during a June 16, 2025 press conference called by the police to provide updates on a number of criminal investigations, including the triple homicide which occurred in Belmont on May 16, 2025.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Christopher Benjamin, speaking specifically to private promoters, event coordinators and deejays, addressed the trend of music with obscene language being played.

“I notice it has been creeping in where deejays are playing music with expletives. I ask you to desist from doing that. Once you trespass in that area we will pull the plug on the event. Let us promote clean culture so that everybody can enjoy themselves …” he noted, adding that music promoting violence should not be played either.

In relation to the ‘no bottle policy’ which holds for all carnival events, including at streets bars, ASP Benjamin urged bar operators to stock up on disposable drinking containers and follow the rules and regulations.

“If you want to do your business make sure you abide by the rules and regulations, otherwise we will take the necessary action. I am not threatening anyone, but we want to make sure we have a safe carnival.”
