Ottley Hall man bonded for physically abusing ex-girlfriend

An Ottley Hall man who bit, boxed and shoved his ex-girlfriend into a table after having an argument allegedly about another man, was bonded for one year, and was ordered to pay compensation.

Ashbert Rodney appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie, on June, 4, 2025 where he was sentenced for unlawfully and maliciously wounding Norika John of Rillan Hill, on May, 24, 2025 at Rillan Hill.

The facts, presented in court by PC 196 Constantine are that John has known Rodney for approximately one year. They first met in Kingstown where they exchanged contact information and began talking on the phone.

They later got into an intimate relationship and were living together at his house in Ottley Hall. Rodney tends to be verbally and physically abusive towards John whenever they disagree.

Whenever John attempted to leave the relationship, Rodney would threaten to kill her. On May, 24, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m, John was lying next to Rodney in his bedroom when he asked her who is ‘Ken’.

John denied knowing anyone by that name. However, Rodney, unsatisfied, responded, “Way you mean you don’t know who is Ken, you think I chupit?”

Rodney insisted that John should leave his house. Consequently, John contacted her younger sister who arranged with their father to pick her up and take her to Rillan Hill.

Rodney got upset, grabbed John’s cell phone from her hand and began hitting her. He then held onto her hair and boxed her in the left eye and several times in her face.

John asked her aggressor to let her go. However, Rodney proceeded to shove John into the bedroom table and bit her on her left shoulder.
