‘I am not responsible for people’s behavioural problems’ – PM Gonsalves
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has sounded another warning for citizens of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) to “ stay away from criminality”.
Dr Gonsalves, who is also this country’s Minister of National Security also told Vincentians “ you have to watch your behaviour”.
He restated the appeal on NBC radio on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, where he spoke about criminality in general, and urged citizens to also stay shy of greed and violence associated with gun activity.
He noted that “ a lot of the behavioural problems that we have arise from the breakdown of the family structure”, and added that these problems also develop due to a lack of proper parenting, or when some teachers are not pulling their weight in the classroom.
Dr Gonsalves suggested that the full effort of the family, the church and the community is needed to help keep individuals in check.
“I am not, and cannot be responsible for the behavioural problems of individuals,” he emphasised.
“Each of us, for instance, we are responsible for our own health.”
Dr Gonsalves insisted that people cannot make poor health choices, for instance, then blame him when they end up in the hospital.
“How it come my fault?” he questioned.
