Belmont triple homicide leaves many questions hanging
THE FATAL SHOOTING of three people, one woman and two men, in Belmont over the weekend, has left many speculating as to the motive behind the killings.
The shooting which occurred on Friday, May 16, 2025 at a shop claimed the lives of Belmont residents Dameon Cumberbatch and Joel Browne, and shop owner, Leslyn Davis. Two others were injured in the shooting as well.
Reports are that around 9:00 p.m, masked men entered the shop and opened fire hitting multiple people.
Video posted on social media showed the deceased laying on the floor of the shop while residents on the outside were heard crying and questioning why the shooting had occurred.
Speaking at a May, 17 press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Frankie Joseph said officers and investigators are working around the clock to gather evidence and interview witnesses in order to determine exactly what happened.
The motive for the Belmont triple homicide, as well as the May, 13, killing of Green Hill business man, Stephen King, is still under heavy speculation by the public.
Responding to questions from the media during Saturday’s press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Trevor Bailey, who has since been instructed to take charge of the Belmont shooting investigation, said investigators are “connecting the dots” as they have recognized some similarities between the May, 13 and May, 16 fatal shootings in which both business owners shot and killed without being robbed.
