Ring the Bell, Shout Hallelujah! documentary to be aired on Spiritual Baptists holiday

‘Ring the Bell, Shout Hallelujah!’ documentary is set to be premiered online as part of the celebrations for the first national Spiritual Baptists holiday, to be celebrated on May 21.

The feature-length documentary is executive produced, by Interactive Media Ltd., and directed and shot by SEARCHLIGHT team Christina Katrina Smith and Eldontè Samuel.

Ring the Bell, Shout Hallelujah! tells the powerful story of the ‘Shakers,’ a religious group in St. Vincent and the Grenadines persecuted under the Shakerism Prohibition Ordinance, whose resistance and activism led to recognition as Spiritual Baptists.

Viewers can look forward to the virtual screening on Searchlight Newspaper, SVG on YouTube starting at 7 pm on Tuesday, May 20 2025.

The 46-minute film is told through dramatized reenactments, interviews with historians, Spiritual Baptists members and theatre practitioners with the aim of enlightening viewers about the struggles of the faith and its triumphs.

It covers the period 1912 to present and highlights the timeline of the eventual repeal of the Prohibition Ordinance down to present day as Spiritual Baptists across the country celebrate the first national holiday.
