Senior Magistrate tells “Convict,’ leave rum alone’
An old Montrose man, who unintentionally dropped a stone on a vendor’s phone and broke its screen while he was intoxicated, was warned by a Senior Magistrate that when “you see rum…leave it alone.”
Ulrick ‘Convict’ Bailey appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie on April, 25, 2025 where he was charged that on April 22, 2025, at Old Montrose without lawful excuse, he damaged one blue Samsung Galaxy S21 cell phone valued EC$625.00, the property of Jovel Dover of Arnos Vale, and was reckless as to whether such property would be damaged.
Dover knows Bailey very well, but they are not friends. On the day in question, Dover was in the vicinity of Block 2000, selling fruits as he usually does.
At that time, Dover’s blue Samsung Galaxy S21 cellphone was placed on the table where the fruits were laid out. Shortly afterwards, Dover saw Bailey, who seemed to be intoxicated, standing in the yard directly above him.
Dover watched Bailey take up a stone from the yard with his right hand and attempted to put it into his left hand. Dover then saw the stone fall out of Bailey’s hand and onto his cellphone which was still on the table with his fruits.
Dover made checks and observed that his phone screen was damaged and informed Bailey about what he had done.
However, Bailey said that he did not care. As a result, Dover reported the matter to the police. PC 979 Jack entertained his report and visited the scene.
