Court being made “a pappy show” says Senior Magistrate
A St Lucian, who had ongoing immigration matters in court, was escorted out of prison to St Lucia by police without the knowledge of the court or the immigration department, under the instructions of an unknown authority.
And, as Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie attempted to get answers how this happened she was moved to comment that the court was being made a “pappy show” of.
On February 24, 2025, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Frankie Joseph appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before the Senior Magistrate where he gave an account of St Lucian prisoner, Chester King, who was escorted from His Majesty’s Prison to head back to St Lucia, without the knowledge of the court and the Immigration Department.
Joseph testified that sometime in the morning of February, 21, 2025, he received a phone call from Superintendent of Prisons, Dwayne Bailey, that there was a St Lucian who was being accommodated at one of the penitentiary facilities, and two police officers will be picking him up to escort him back to St Lucia.
Joseph said he went to the Process Office and explained to an officer what Superintendent Bailey had told him and instructed the officer to get a production order.
A production order is an order to release a prisoner into the hands of the police. The officer asked Joseph for the name of the prisoner.
However, Joseph told the officer that Bailey did not give him the name of the prisoner, and that the officer can find out the prisoner’s name.
