Chauteaubelair/Old Montrose man convicted for the 28th time
A Chauteaubelair/Old Montrose man was convicted for the 28th time, after he pleaded guilty to stealing butter and six pounds of rice from Randy’s Mini-mart.
Nimrod Walters appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie on November 25, 2024 where he was sentenced for theft.
Walters was charged that on November 24, 2024, at Rose Place, Kingstown, he stole one Dove margarine butter valued EC$5.80, and six pounds of rice valued at EC$13.50- a total value EC$19.30, the property of Randy’s Mini-mart of Rose Place.
On the date in question, at about 6:30 p.m, Dwayne Daniel, who works at the mini-mart as a meat man, was making a daily routine check at the business.
While doing so, he saw Walters with a green Massy shopping bag on his shoulder looking suspiciously at him.
Walters said to Daniel, “I just picking up something”. Daniel found this to be strange, but said nothing, and observed Walters from a distance.
Daniel saw Walters going to the aisle where the rice shelf is located. He walked past the two cashiers at the entrance and left. Upon seeing this, Daniel ran to check footage on the camera and observed that Walters had taken one tub of Dove margarine butter, then proceeded to the rice shelf where he removed six pounds of rice.
Daniel observed Walters placing the items in his bag, then walking out of the mini-mart without paying for them. Daniel ran out the store in search of Walters, and met him through Middle Street, Kingstown, where he asked Walters for the items he had taken. However, Walters turned around and asked Daniel to “pardon him”.
Daniel held Walters by his shirt and asked him to go back to the mini-mart with him. They both went back to the business. Walters’ bag was searched and the stolen items were found.
The matter was reported to the police and an investigation was launched. When Walters was cautioned and interviewed, he said, “Me ain’t get nothing to say”.
He was later charged with theft. The Senior Magistrate, noting that Walters had already been convicted 27 times, sentenced him to prison for three months and three weeks.
