Men remanded on illegal gun and ammunition charges

Two men have been remanded into custody after allegedly being found in possession of one unlicensed firearm and 11 rounds of ammunition.

Nicholas Audain of Cane Hall, and Ronald Audain of Prospect, appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate, Colin John yesterday June 13, 2024, where they pleaded not guilty to being in illegal possession of gun and ammunition.

The men were charged that on June 10, 2024, at Arnos Vale, they had in their possession one Smith and Wesson .45 pistol without a license issued under the Firearms Act.

They also were charged that on the same date and place, they had in their possession 11 rounds of .45 ammunition without a license issued under the Firearms Act.

Prosecutor, Renrick Cato objected to them being granted bail. Cato said that the police are currently conducting investigations into another matter where these men may be involved.

Cato said however, that he did not wish to disclose the nature of the offence in the presence of members of the public. He added that if the men were to be granted bail, they may cause an obstruction in the investigation. Therefore, he asked that they be remanded for one week so that the police can conduct their investigations without any interference.

Senior Magistrate John granted the Prosecutor’s application and remanded the men. The matter is adjourned to next Thursday June 20, 2024, for bail review.
