CWSA: Five water supply systems now listed as critical

The impact of drought conditions across St Vincent and the Grenadines has worsened forcing the Central Water and Sewage Authority (CWSA) to implement stricter water rationing protocols in a number of communities.

Five of CWSA’s major system status upgraded to red.

The five red zone systems are the Dalaway, Mamoon, Majorca, Montreal and John Hill supply systems. Red means that the system is under risk and strict water conservation measures are being put in place. Under the red advisory, activities such as car washing, power washing and other non-essential activities are prohibited.

Water rationing, up to twice daily for some communities, is being implemented until further notice. The daily disruptions run from 8pm to 5am as well as 10 am to 2 pm or 10 am to 4 pm.

CWSA is expected to hold a a press briefing on Tuesday, May 14 to discuss the issue with local media.
