PM tells NDP: You want a chance, play Lotto

While the New Democratic Party (NDP)is asking Vincentians to give them a chance at forming the next administration in upcoming general elections, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves is wondering why they want this chance.

Speaking on NBC Radio on Wednesday March 20,2024, Gonsalves said the opposition party is telling Vincentians to give them a chance but asked, “A chance to do what?”

He questioned the rationale in giving the NDP a promotion while they are failing at their existing job.

“I say to the people every day, a chance is open to them; they could play Lotto.”

“You want a chance? Play Lotto.

“Running the country is not a chance.”

The New Democratic Party which has been in opposition since the 2001 general elections, is seeking to unseat the governing Unity Labour Party (ULP) in general elections due in 2025. The party has already begun to roll out its elections machinery with visits to communities and candidate selection.

In the 2020 general election the ULP emerged victorious, thereby securing a fifth consecutive term in office winning nine of 15 seat at stake. At the launch of its South Windward candidate on March 9, 2024, party leader Godwin Friday appealed to potential voters to “come back home” to the NDP.
