New Labs for two Secondary Schools

The Troumaca Ontario and the West St George Secondary Schools are to receive upgraded science laboratories, thanks to the generosity of the Government of Taiwan.

Signing ceremony for the labs was held on Monday March, 18, 2024.

At Troumaca, the Science Laboratory will be retrofitted, while at West St George Secondary, a new commercial food preparation laboratory will be built.

These will be constructed with funding from the Government of the Republic of China On Taiwan through the TX Foundation based in Taiwan, to the tune of US$28,652 at Troumaca, and US$77,391 at the West St George Secondary School.

Speaking at the ceremony, senior education officer, Aldia Dyer expressed delight that the students will be able to improve critical thinking skills as they delve into the field of the sciences.

Ambassador of Taiwan to St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Fiona Fan, underscored her country’s continued support to this country in facilitating improvements in several areas of development, including Education.

These partnerships “aim to strengthen our bi-lateral ties,” the Ambassador stated.

Ambassador Fan also used the opportunity to encourage students to take advantage of the scholarships offered by Taiwan so that they can return to their country and serve.

Parliamentary Representative for North Leeward, Carlos James, who was also at the ceremony, said there needs to be a focus on the Sciences and he was pleased that Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines had partnered with promoting education in SVG.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Curtis King, thanking the Foundation for their assistance, said that the Ministry of Education is committed to providing the necessary adjustments to the curriculum to accommodate all areas of study, from the sciences to Technical and Vocational Education.

Taiwan’s TX Foundation has provided assistance to more than 80 countries (API).
