A late night fire of unknown origin gutted a portion of the Owia Salt Pond Recreational Park.

The blaze reportedly started around 11 pm in one the stalls used to sell refreshments.

A fire tender arrived on the scene and was able to bring the fire under control.

This incident took place just hours before an event hosted by The National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024.

The closing ceremony for the Rehabilitation and Restoration project as scheduled to take place at 11 am.

Representatives from the NPRB told SEARCHLIGHT that an assessment has not yet been done to determine the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
