Firearms seized, suspects arrested in hospital shooting

Two firearms were seized by police and a number of suspects arrested following an investigation into a shooting which occurred at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 pm on March 19, 2024 involving a patient, Connel Jack, 26, of Ottley Hall, who was warded at the Male Surgical Ward.

Reports from hospital personnel indicate that an unidentified individual was able to bypass security at the checkpoints and gained unauthorized access to the hospital grounds. The shooter went in search of Jack and after locating him, shot twice at Jack before attempting to escape the healthcare institution.

This is the second attempt made on Jack’s life in as many days following a shooting which occurred on Sunday in Ottley Hall. Jack was reportedly shot and ran to a police substation to seek assistance where he was later transported to the hospital.

Police said that several individuals were detained in connection with the incident as well as the primary suspect. An alleged assailant reportedly incurred self-inflicted injuries while trying to flee and has since been admitted for treatment at the MCMH.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment has said that a review of security measures is to be undertaken with a view of implementing additional measures if necessary.
