Retired Nurses Association donates to Catholic Soup Kitchen

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Retired Nurses Association (SVGRNA), has made a monetary donation to the Loaves and Fishes- better known as the “Soup Kitchen” a charity operated by the Catholic Church in Kingstown.

The donation by cheque, made as part of the organization’s annual assistance programme was handed over on February 15, 2024, by president of SVGRNA Ann DeRoche, to Clyde Fitzpatrick, director of the Soup Kitchen at its Rose Place venue, a release from the Association states.

Other members of the organization were also present at the event. The Soup Kitchen was pioneered by Fr. Andrew Roache who, while serving as associate pastor at the Cathedral of the Assumption in 1994, saw a need and decided to do something about it. Fr. Andrew indicated that assistance was received from the government, members of the corporate sector, and some well-wishers in the community.

The Loaves and Fishes meal program currently provides about 75 lunches Mondays to Fridays, and approximately 140 on Sundays to persons in need.

Fitzpatrick thanked the retired nurses organization for its kind gesture and wished them continued success.
