PM’s wife does not regret the political journey with her husband

Eloise Gonsalves, wife of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has spoken publicly of his unwavering love for the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines. And, as she accompanied him with her small children while he did leg work throughout the country, she said she has no regrets doing so.

Mrs Gonsalves was one of the many persons present for a special Cabinet meeting on Wednesday February, 21,2024 the anniversary date of his 30th anniversary of being the member of Parliament for the constituency of North Central Windward.

“He never wavered in his love for people, no matter what happened,” Dr Gonsalves’ wife told a full Cabinet room on Wednesday.

Reflecting on the past 30 years with her husband as an MP, Gonsalves said “it has been quite a journey.”

She said Dr Gonsalves always took time to help others and that she realized very soon that she had to walk step by step with him.

She remembered accompanying her husband “all over the country” as he held political meetings.

Their first two children were often on these road trips, from which she said “they learnt so much about politics even though initially she had misgivings having to take them on the road so often because they were so small.

“It actually strengthened them; it was good for them in the end,” she said in retrospect.

The life of a politician is not easy and Eloise said that there were times when Dr Gonsalves “would get frustrated and shrug his shoulders, but it never interfered with his love for the people and Vincentians.”

“As a human being, it is very difficult to get so many knocks and still get up and feel love again in your heart.”

Looking directly at her husband, Eloise said “I have been inspired by you Ralph; and it has been a wonderful journey, I have no regrets at all.”

The prime minister’s wife also expressed gratitude to everyone who demonstrated love and supported her husband during his 30 years of representing the people of North Central Windward in the Parliament of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
