St Mary RC School buries time capsule to mark 101st anniversary

St Mary’s Roman Catholic School marked its 101st anniversary by burying a time capsule under a newly planted tree on the school’s compound on Monday February, 12, 2024.

The tree planting and laying of the time capsule was coordinated by the school’s environmental club and students wrote messages to future generations to place in the capsule.

Grade Five Teacher, Leyahna Campbell in her remarks at the ceremony, said the tree symbolizes growth, resilience and “the enduring spirit of our institution”.

“Just as this tree takes root and flourishes, so too has our school evolved, nurturing minds and fostering a sense of community. With each passing year, we have grown stronger, much like the branches that will one day extend from this sapling.”

Campbell told students the time capsule makes the school unique and preserves a piece of time for future generations.

“As we bury this time capsule, we encapsulate the essence of our present – the memories, achievements, and aspirations that define us. When this capsule is unearthed in the future, it will serve as a testament to the rich tapestry of experiences that make our school truly special.”

The 101st anniversary was celebrated under the theme “Honouring our past, building our future; Our school, our nation, our legacy”.
