Man wanted for burglary in Grenada to be removed from SVG

A Grenadian who is wanted for burglary in his home country had a removal order made against him after he illegally entered St Vincent and the Grenadines to plant weed.

Nixon Philips of Grenada appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 30 where he pleaded guilty to three immigration charges.

Phillips was charged that on October 28, 2023 at Calliaqua, he did enter the state of St Vincent and the Grenadines other than a port of entry.

Phillips was also charged that on the same day, he did enter the state of St Vincent and the Grenadines by boat and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.

On the same day, he was also charged that he knowingly and wilfully allowed himself to be landed as a prohibited immigrant.

However, Prosecutor Corlene Samuel told the court that Phillips is wanted in Grenada for a criminal offence, but she did not receive any information as to the nature of the offence.

Phillips told the court that it was just a “money” offence, but Ballah told him that “it matters not” what he is wanted for, the fact remains that he is wanted for a criminal offence.

He then remanded Phillips and ordered that he brought back to court on Wednesday, November 1 so that the matter could proceed.

On Wednesday, it was found that the offence that Phillips was wanted for, was that of Burglary.

When Phillips was asked what he was doing in St Vincent, he responded that he was planting weed. He also claimed that he did not know the procedure to follow to enter the country.

Ballah then made a removal order for Phillips in relation to all his charges.
