Park Hill Evangelical Church celebrates 65th anniversary with thanksgiving service

The Park Hill Evangelical Church will this Sunday, August 13 celebrate its 65th Anniversary as a ministry and its 31st anniversary since the dedication of its home sanctuary.

The church will host a praise and thanksgiving service commencing at 10:30 am at the Park Hill Evangelical Church. The theme of 65th anniversary is, “Returning thanks at 65”. The text on which the theme is based in Luke 17: 15-16 and the speaker to minister and challenge the church on the theme is Pastor Lennox Lyte-Rankin from Guyana.

The Park Hill Evangelical Church, a member of the Evangelical Church of the West Indies (ECWI), got started in Park Hill in early 1958 by offering Sunday schools classes on Sunday evenings at the then newly opened Park Hill Government.

As the group grew and persons came to Christ, the church rented the downstairs of George Stephens’s Sr property for meetings. The work continued to grow and a number of pastors, leaders and ministers served during the 65 years. These include Dr Walford Thompson, Dr Samuel Hazell, Samuel Brown, Dennis O Mounsey, Mazelline Branch, Elliot Gibson, Maxwell Providence, Lavern Smith, Dr Charles Cropper, Amos Dennie, Lyder Thomas, Robert Fitzpatrick, Marcus Caine, Leisly Daize, Herman Dalzell, Conroy Huggins and Brian Dabreo among others.

The church will conduct a week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the children of the community from August 14 to 18 as part of its thrust to reach the next generation with the gospel message of Christ.
