Five students entering secondary school get financial award from Tropical Shipping

Tropical Shipping has awarded scholarships to five students who were successful in the 2023 Caribbean Primary Exit assessment (CPEA) to help in their preparations for entry into secondary school.

A release from the shipping agency said the presentations, made on July 17, saw each recipient receiving a donation of $US 300.00 to help ease the financial burden which and enable them to better pursue their secondary education.

At the presentation ceremony held at the agency’s office in Kingstown, Sale Manager of Tropical Shipping, Maxine Howard said this gesture exemplifies the organization’s dedication to investing in the communities they serve by fostering educational opportunities for youths, recognizing the crucial role education plays in transforming lives and creating a brighter future for individuals and society.

Howard expressed her company’s delight to contribute to the students academic journey while observing corporate responsibility through its giving committee.

This year marks 60 years since Tropical Shipping has been serving the Bahamas and the Caribbean; it has operated in St Vincent and the Grenadines for the past 30 years.

Senior education officer in the Ministry of Education Hannah Browne, who represented the ministry at the presentation thanked Tropical Shipping for its generous donation which she avowed will offset much of the financial burden to the parents thereby providing adequate educational supplies. In addressing the students, Browne said this donation serves as a powerful affirmation of true corporate commitment and encouraged the students to use it appreciatively on their new journey for educational excellence.

The parents of the recipients also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Tropical Shipping for the donation which would make it easier for their children to obtain a secondary education by making the purchase of textbooks, uniforms and other educational expenses less costly for them.
