Court grants bail to siblings alleged to have caused victim’s leg to be broken

A brother and sister of Belair who are alleged to have inflicted injury to a Dauphine resident, were granted bail when they appeared in court on Wednesday, July 26.

Omar and Omelia Woods of Belair, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s court where they were not required to plea to the indictable charge.

They are charged that on June 22, at Belair they did unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm to Keon Williams with intent to do so.

Prosecutor Corlene Samuel, told the court that the injury inflicted by the defendants was not life threatening; however, she said that the victim is still in the hospital. It is alleged that the victim’s leg was broken as a result of the injury.

Magistrate John Ballah, granted each bail in the sum of $6000 with one surety each. He also ordered the defendants to have no contact with the complainant.

Omar is to report to the Calliaqua Police Station every Friday from 6:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m, while Omelia is to report to the Central Police Station, Kingstown every Friday from 6:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. They are to surrender all travel documents, and stop notices were ordered placed against them at all ports of entry and exit.

The siblings were remanded into custody until surety was signed for them.

The matter is adjourned to August 3 and is transferred to the Serious Offences Court.
