‘Lyttle’ Vincy feet to be outfitted with shoes

As the new school term approaches, underprivileged children are expected to be given a helping hand with the launch of a new charitable organization called Lyttle Feet which is geared towards outfitting the nation’s children with proper footwear.

The initiative is the brainchild of KJ Lyttle, the son of Vincentian international soca star, Kevin and Jacqueline James-Lyttle.

During a virtual press conference on Monday, July 3, KJ explained how the idea to launch the non-profit came during a 2019 visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) where he saw children playing outside with no shoes. After questioning his mother as to why the children were bare-footed, he was informed that a lack of financial resources hinders some parents from purchasing shoes.

Jacqueline said she guided the teen on the steps to start the non-profit and four years later, the charity is expecting to conduct the first mass distribution in SVG ahead of the start of the new school term in September.

The team told the media that information is being gathered on the quantity of shoes needed, and sizes, after which the order will be placed and footwear handed over. A donation of $25 can provide a child with a pair of shoes, including the manufacturing of the shoes as well as shipping.

Jacqueline stressed the importance of donors coming forward to fund the initiative and ensure that those who most need help will receive it. The charity’s website lyttlefeet.org is the main channel where parents can place orders, and KJ has designed six options for kids to choose from.

Jacqueline said KJ is seeking not just to pass on used shoes to kids but give them a variety of styles they would be interested in.

Kevin Lyttle told the media he was proud of his son and he sees the non-profit as an “opportunity to give back to the communities that built us”.
