Five bloody incidents over three days leave people on edge
Dr Alfredo Batista Salgado is warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the MCMH

Five bloody incidents over three days leave people on edge

Five violent incidents over a three day period here have left many people on edge, and pushed the homicide toll for 2023 to 26.

And much of the concern is being expressed on social media platforms.

The bloody period started on Saturday when the District Medical Officer for the Marriaqua District, Dr Alfredo Batista Salgado, a medical doctor attached to the Cuban Medical Brigade was stabbed in White Chapel Road, Kingstown.

The 53 year old Cuban doctor had to undergo emergency surgery following the knife attack in Kingstown on Saturday, July 1 by three individuals, the police say.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that the doctor suffered a severe injury to his abdomen while walking back to his home after attending the Fantastic Friday event at Victoria Park. He collapsed outside the premises of His Majesty’s Prisons (HMP) where he was discovered by prison officers.

Dr Salgado has been warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) since the surgery.

Also on Saturday, at around 10:00 p.m., Osborne “Vague-E” Haywood, 42, was shot and killed in Greiggs as he sought shelter at the village’s hard court when a shower of rain started.

The mason had been out drinking with a female friend for the entire day and was making his way home, intoxicated, when an assassin’s bullet struck him in the face. He died on the spot. He was from Marfot Road, Greiggs. His cousin, Esworth Johnson related to SEARCHLIGHT that he administered Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to Haywood who died in his arms. “It’s just like I lost my wife, is 40 years we together,” Johnson said of the relationship between him and his first cousin, Haywood.

Then on Monday Darius “Grabba” Williams, a 24-year-old bus conductor from Glen was stabbed at the bus stop outside the Peace Memorial Hall in Richmond Hill at around 5:50 p.m., allegedly by a mentally unstable person.

He was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) but died from the chest wound.

Also on Monday Michael Miller, a 46 year old man of Stubbs was killed in Georgetown.

Reports are that Miller succumbed to his injuries after he was shot by an unknown assailant several times about his body.

Also shot in Georgetown last Monday was Floyd McDowald, a 28-year-old farmer.

McDowald was taken to the Modern Medical Complex in Georgetown with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He was later transferred to the MCMH in stable condition. Police say that investigations are taking place.

The police are asking members of the public who have information that can help with any of these investigations to contact them.
