Trial in alleged murder of Joshua “Cabbage” Pompey coming to a close

The trial involving a man who is accused of murder is nearing its end after the prosecution closed its case yesterday, June 29, and the court heard evidence from the defendant.

The fate of Hanif Forbes, a mason by trade will soon be deliberated on by a 12 member jury, as the trial at the High Court #1 is narrowing down. The Spring Village man is being tried on a charge for murder and four counts of other criminal offences.

He is charged that on January 22, 2022 at O’Brien’s Valley he caused the death of Joshua “Cabbage” Pompey by an unlawful act.

Apart from murder, Forbes is facing charges in relation to: using a firearm to aid in the commission of an offence, possession of a firearm with an intent to injure, as well as burglary, and assault.

It is alleged that on January 21, 2022 Forbes assaulted Lekeitha Harris Pompey of O’Brien’s Valley by boxing the woman in her face causing actual bodily harm. It is also alleged that he entered the dwelling house of Pompey and took items belonging to her.

The crown called 14 witnesses to give evidence in the trial which started on Wednesday, June 21. Director of Public Prosecutions, Sejilla Mcdowall, is leading the case for the crown and is assisted by Renee Simmons. Forbes is being represented by counsel Ronald Marks.

The prosecution closed its case yesterday, Thursday 29, after lead investigator, Sergeant 644 Malcolm Alexander testified.

The accused, Forbes, took the stand after the prosecution closed its case, choosing to testify in the matter.

The body of “Cabbage” Pompey was found in his vehicle on January 22, 2022, with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head.
