Teenager charged with robbery of over $23,000

An 18-year-old who is alleged to have left a citizen of the Dominican Republic with a fractured arm during a robbery has been slapped with three charges.

Jamal Baptiste of Rillan Hill appeared at the Serious Offences Court on June 19, where the indictable charges were read to him.

He was not required to plea to the charges that on June, 2, at Cane Grove being armed with an unknown object, he stole one black bag containing EC$23,000 and US$300; and one grey Samsung S9 cellular phone valued at US $300, the property of Juan Villar of the Dominican Republic, and at the time of doing so, he did put Villar in fear of being subjected to force.

The teen is also facing charges for wounding the complainant and inflicting grievous bodily harm on him.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 8:16 p.m on the day in question, and Villar is alleged to have sustained a fractured right arm and a laceration to his head.

Chief magistrate Rechanne Browne, granted bail in the sum of $6000 with one surety. Baptiste was ordered to have no contact with the complainant, and he is to report at the Questelles Police Station every Wednesday between 6:00 a.m – 6:00 p.m.

Baptiste is also to surrender all travel documents, and stop notices were ordered placed at all ports of entry and exit.

The chief magistrate also placed the alleged perpetrator on a curfew from 7: 00 p.m – 6:00 a.m. He will next return to court on September, 21.
