Vermont man pleads not guilty to stealing over $214,000 worth of medicinal marijuana

A man from Vermont facing four charges for allegedly stealing medicinal marijuana and discharging a firearm pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court on Wednesday, December 28.

Jimmy Nickie told the court he is a diabetic and appeared to have had an injured foot that needs regular attention.

He pled not guilty to the charges when he appeared in the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne.

The offences are said to have all occurred at Vermont on December 5, 2022.

Nickie is charged that he had in his possession one home made firearm, make and serial number unknown, without a license under the Firearms Act. He is also charged that he entered the dwelling house of Merland Finch as a trespasser and at the time had a weapon of offence, to wit, a gun. His third charge is that, he discharged a firearm at Merland Finch. Additionally, he is charged for entering the storeroom of Green Lava lab as a trespasser and stealing 53 kilograms of medicinal marijuana valued at $214,650.00, the property of Green Lava Labs Ltd.

The Chief Magistrate, granted Nickie bail in the sum of $2,500.00 with one surety. He is to have no contact with the complainant and is required to report to the Vermont Police Station four times a week Monday-Thursday between 6:00 a.m-6:00 p.m. The matters are adjourned to January 31, 2023.

The Chief Magistrate said she granted bail to the defendant in a low sum due to his need for medical care, since he is diabetic and has an injured foot that needs to be dressed regularly.

As a result, she wanted to ensure that he gets the care that is needed for his current condition. However, no one signed bail for the defendant and he was remanded into custody.
