Old buildings at Belle Vue being transformed for use as educational and cultural hub – PM
The old banana boxing plant and the arrowroot factory in Belle Vue, Colonaire are being transformed.
The spot, which houses the dilapidated buildings is already cleaned and soon the area will be transformed into a thriving activity centre.
This was the information shared by Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves on the Issue at Hand Programme on WEFM last Sunday November 27.
The Prime Minister, who is also the Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of North Central Windward, which includes Belle Vue, said the area is to be turned into a Cultural and Educational Hub.
He explained that the government has already put forward a proposal, seeking funding to develop this particular area.
Gonsalves spoke of persons in this country, “who are interested in selling cultural and artistic goods and services,” and sees this new hub as an avenue for them to earn an income.
The proposed hub will also be a place for creative performances and entertainment.
According to Gonsalves, plans are in place to have the new cultural and educational hub fitted with a theatre, recording studios, a place for drumming, and computers for IT training.
Additionally, the Prime Minister explained that the area “must have dimension” for agriculture, since it is close to the agricultural communities of Park Hill and South Rivers.
As well, he spoke of plans to have agricultural marketing and training, along with agro-processing and other forms of activities at the new hub, which lies in an area which is popularly called “Central.”
A committee has already been put in place to ensure the upgrade of the area.
