Four pre-schoolers awarded one-year scholarships

Four pre-school pupils have been awarded one-year scholarships by the Dr Nicholette Spring Charitable Foundation.

Scholarship certificates were presented to Mekyla Alexander, Leah James, Jayce Shallow and Jiren Spencer at the ByeSave PreSchool Graduation Ceremony on July 22 at Byera.

The scholarships are valid for one year and will run from September 2022 to June 2023.

Benefactor Dr Nicholette Spring promised that this would be an annual venture.

“My hope is that you would take the opportunity to have your children educated while we build and uplift our community,” a note read at the graduation from Dr Spring said.

Cheers of appreciation sounded for Dr Spring on her kind gesture.

Mia Quashie, mother of Jiren Spencer is especially grateful and thankful for the scholarship that was presented to her son.

She said she worked in the hotel industry and because of the Covid situation has been unemployed for the past two years.

Quashe said this period has been a challenge for her financially because she is struggling with her seven-year-old autistic son as well as the two-year-old pre-schooler without any assistance.

“Thus the scholarship to Jiren will ease the burden for at least a year.’

The Scholarship certificates were presented to the parents by Hermisteen Burke, a member of the Committee, on behalf of Dr Spring.
