New book seeks to encourage young women to find God

A BOOK that encourages young women to foster a relationship with God through prayer has been published by a local author.

Desiree Neverson-Jack launched her book – ‘ABBA – HE Speaks’ during an exhibition jointly hosted with three artists at the Kingstown Vegetable Market on June 30.

Neverson-Jack said the title of what is her second book is related to The Almighty and is “an intimate and obedient way of saying ‘Father’”. She explained that the book shows the relationship she has had with God over the years.

“I used to first call him God, and now I acknowledge him as my ABBA. So it is an intimate relationship, that was expressed, or that is expressed throughout the book.”

Expanding, Neverson- Jack said “The chapters contain experiences of my life, all capsulated in Bible verses, and each story ends with the theme HE speaks.”

She is of the view that the book will be a source of encouragement to young people, especially young women, given the many challenges they face in their everyday lives.

“The book encourages a young woman to foster a relationship with God through the atmosphere of prayer.”

Neverson-Jack said individuals need to strive for a relationship with God, rather than just being part of a denomination or attending a church.

“How do you really define Christianity? So it is really about a relationship with GOD, a personal relationship with God.”

The author revealed that her first book, ‘Clarita’ is in the library of her Alma mater, the St Joseph’s Convent, Kingstown. “When I wrote the book, the principal was so delighted; she placed a copy of it in the library. I am also hoping that a copy of ‘ABBA HE Speaks’ will also be placed in the library of St Joseph’s Convent as well.”

The author believes that the writing of ‘Clarita’ and ‘ABBA – HE Speaks’ is just the beginning.

“I believe that this is the smoke and as I age, I envision myself writing other books.”
