Anglican church to ordain two new female Deacons

Two Vincentians will be ordained to the Holy Order of Deacons within the Anglican Church, Diocese of the Windward Islands, next week Tuesday.

Khadisha Smart, 28 ,and 36 year old Keba Cuffy, will be ordained to the Holy Order of Deacons by Bishop of the Windward Islands, Leopold Friday at 10 a.m, on Tuesday June 29, at the Cathedral Church of St George, Kingstown, during the celebration of the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, a release from the church states.

Cuffy, a former student of the Questelles Government School, the St Vincent Technical College, and the Seneca College of Applied Arts in Canada, has been employed in the hospitality industry; while Smart, a former pupil of the Calliaqua Anglican School, graduated from the Community College’s Division of Nursing Education, with an associate degree in nursing.

Both Cuffy and Smart recently completed studies at Codrington College, St. John, and the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Barbados, where they each pursued a diploma in Pastoral Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Theology.

As children Cuffy and Smart are said to have been grounded solidly and involved in the ministry of the church, from baptism to confirmation, attending Sunday school and then returning to teach it. They have been members of the Anglican Youth Movement, as well as servers at the altar in their respective parishes, and affiliated with the ministry and members of other organisations in the church.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers attending the ordination will be restricted, but the ceremony will be carried live on radio and on the Internet.
